Thumb Assembly for a Robotic Hand

The poster that I presented at the fall 2024 Dean’s Research Award presentation day.

In the fall semester of 2024, I participated in the University of Alberta Faculty of Engineering’s Dean’s Research Award program.

During this time, I contributed to the development of an open-source prosthetic hand, called the HANDi Hand. My work focused on redesigning the thumb joint of the hand to incorporate better servo motors.

The redesigned thumb has:

  • A larger range of motion.

  • Stronger motors (more torque).

  • Motors with more precise control.

  • A much simpler assembly process.

  • Fewer parts.

  • Better ventilation around the servo motors.
